A method is offered for design evaluation of the diesel engine piston thermofatigue strength. The piston life depends on characteristics of its non-steady thermal conditions, material properties and service conditions. This evaluation is proved by the positive similarity of calculation results, based on the above method and experimental data of the piston service life of the tractor diesel engines.

Conditions and results are deseribed of the experimental characteristics of the contact strength of carburized steels 12HNSA and 18H2N4MA, used for fuel pump camshafts of high seed supercharged rtansport diesel engines. A technique is given of the transfer from the sample contact strength limit to the cam contact strength. Numerical characteristics of parameters of contact strength curves, limits of sample and cam contact strength and their average square deviations, and also numerical evaluation of the technological factor effect on the level of contact strength limits.
