Four versions of the gas exchange in high-speed 4-stroke engines Ch9.5/10 and ChN9.5/10 are analyzed. A nomogram is given of gas tim ing optimization in dependence on the crankshaft speed within the range 1500 to 3000 min-1.

Results are considered of the experimental investigations on the engine 6ChN2l/21, propelling the power unit SA-10T2, operating under tropical conditions. The effect of temperature and relative air humidity on operating parameters of the unit and its thermal conditions is investigated. The possibility is studied of the partial compensation of the unit power loss by insreasing the permissible level of gas temperature.

Method of definition of thermo-stress conditions in the engine piston group parts is described, using straight jont numerical solution of equations, which describe the course of the operating process in a cylinder, non-stationary thermal condition and thermo-elastisity equations. In the calculating diagram a non-stationary heat exchange and heat release caused by friction between a movable piston and a cylinder liner are considered. Calculation results and their comparison with experimental data are given.

Teshnique of definition is considered of the liquid tendency to make deposits on heat released engine parts. Results are given of experiments for studying thermal resistance of slime films, made on the medal surface because of sediment corrosion and other processes. The possibility is shown of how touse above technique for selection of more suitable liquids for engine cooling, and also for their quality control during production and operation.

The effect of fuel supply on the fuel supply speed is shown. The effect of the fuel supply phase control on the toxical factors of the engine D37E is studied, the effectiveness of the fuel supply phase control is proved experimentally, it decreases nitrogen oxide and hydrocarbon emission.

Experimental investigations are described of the evaporation process of drops of water emulsifiable motor oils io the nitrogen in hte wide range of temperatures and pressures. Summerized empirical dependence is considered for calculation of evaporation and burning duration of a single emulsion drop. Effectiveness of a heavy motor oil emulsification, when used in marine diesel engines is evaluated.

The mounting load effect is shown on the stress conditions of carrying elements for casting blocks and sleeves of engine cylinders. Investigation results are given of how to decrease the mounting tension stress in fillets of block seats and support Beads of sleeves for the diesel engine type D50 (6ChN31,8/33).

Operating conditions are considered of plunger springs for fuel pumps, delivery valves and nozzles. Using the wave theory of a longitudinal impact an equation was got for calculation of maximum efforts in above spring coils. The proposed calculation equation in its general form shows more exactly real conditions of fuel injection equipment spring operation, and allows to determine the maximum effort, stress and deformation, defining the spring capacity.

The change of the metal protection degree by inhibitors is shown, which depends on metal combination. An inhibitor is considered with good protection properties in relation to each of tested metals separately, it can be inefficient or agressive in systems of different metals and their surface relations. Therefore when selecting an inhibitor for individual type of diesel engine constructive features of its cooling system should be considered.

The technique of an experiment for definition of the heavy fuel viscosity at the pressure variation is described. The mathematical model for experimental data processing is given and also the analytical expression for viscosity definition at various pressures. The satisfastory convergence of calculating and experimental data is shown for fuels of viscosity up to 10 cm2/s at 20° ?.

Results are given of wear resistance tests, when using the radioindicator technique of recovery and commercial oils. It is shown that the recovery oil M10B (r) on its wear resistance features is not worse than the commercial oil M10B2.

The limiting rotational frequency is limited by the permissible mechanical loss level, bearing loag, noise etc. and depends on the cylinder diameter. The technique is given for definition of the frequency dependence on the diameter, which is of empiric character. Decrease of the frequency in comparison with the limiting one leads to non- full use of the potential possibility to ashieve the maximum power, increase of mass and engine dimensions.
