The use of mathematical methods and computers for automation of the engine development is taken under consideration, using results of the All-union scientific conference. Main trends and perspectives are described in the use of computers in order to shorten time and increase efficiency of investigations, design and experiments at diesel engine creation. Some faults in this work are shown, and also ways to avoid them are pointed out.

Comparing results are given of CNIDI combustion chamber investigations with bifferent versions of the chamber throat and the edge. Main features of the combustion process are shown.

Results are considered of calculated and experimental investigations of gas exchange, carburation and combustion process in the automobile carbureted engine at deep throttling. New coefficients of operating charge efficiency are proposed, considering its real ratios of fuel, oxygen, chemical inactive products. Techniques are given of calculated definitions of these coefficients on exhaust gas analysis and energetic heat evolution characteristics. Recommendations are offered on the operation cycle improvement and constructive elements ot feeding and mixing systems.

Results are given of experimental investigations of the nonstationary regular contact heat exchange between valves and seats in the cylinder cover, carried out both at natural tests of 4-stroke forced diesel engines on experimental test beds. From the experimental data summary standard dependences have been received, which allow to calculate limit conditions of heat exchange at simulation of temperature fields in valves and cylinder cover.

Calculated method is described of the evaluation of oil discharge rate into the engine cylinder from the channel of the annulus cross-section, located between the check valve connection and the cylinder face.

Analytical moment expression is defined, which arises on the engine shaft at uneven variation of the moment of resistance, applying to the unit actuator. The proposed method is based on the use of known dependencies of transient functions from the system frequency characteristics.

Technique of approaching evaluation is described of the low frequency of torsional vibrations for the crankshaft system of the automotive engine by nomograms, received from approaching formulas, using average statistic data on size and mass of moving parts of single-row and V-engines.

Effect of different factors on the engine unbalance is defined, permissible values of mass deviation, size and residual unbalance of the engine parts are established.

Results are considered of calculated investigations of thermal and stress conditions of D100 engine piston constructions, using the method of final elements. The cause of the fast piston failure is shown. Recommendations for their improvement are offered.

Different methods are considered for definition of engine mechanical losses with the analysis of the accuracy of measurement. The integrated method for definition of engine mechanical losses is offered, it is equal to the indicated method, considering its nature, but with much more accuracy of measurement, and unlike all the other non-indicated methods, it considers the load affect on the engine mechanical losses.

Investigation results are given, showing the deformation line of the plunger bushing precise surface with cone fit surfaces. Their heightened sensibility to assembling conditions is defined by means of a comparing analysis, and the conclusion is drawn that such constructions have no advantages.
