Amount of the gas leakage through the looseness of the displacer piston isconsidered. The evaluation of the leakage effect on the engine effectiveness and power output is given. At the relative gas leak c^ = 5% the engine effectiveness is lower by 7.5%, and the power output by 26%.

Results of experimental and calculation studies are shown of different fuel feature effect on parameters of the heat release dynamic in a medium speed diesel engine. The nomogram method is offered for connection between fuel main features and heat release dynamic, that might shorten time and extent of adjustment at preparing the engine for the operation on the other kind of fuel.

The multi-factor optimized comparison of technical and effective parameters of double-acting engines with external heat supply (DVPT) and different lay-outs based on the qualimetric approach iscarried out. The summary is qiven on the advantage to apply drum DVPT for low output, and for high output DVPT should be also applied with the X- lay-out and a power mechanism without a connecting rod. The priority of tasks at the study of drum DVPT features is shown.

Itconsists in considering the engine as a dynamic system, having elements with transfer function, which allows to define all required characteristics. Calcutation results are given.

Speed of the piston group mass is defined in the lateral direction, using the method of multiplying integral. Approaching evaluation is given of the efficiency of piston group elements.
