Problems of mixture formation are analyzed at the carburetor engine intake with and without device for cutting off fuel supply at the forced idling. Test results are given of passenger cars with four- and eight cylinder engines, where the effect of a device, cutting off the fuel supply at forced idling, on the car dynamic and economical characteristics is shown.

Method is given for a comparative evaluation of heat exchange surface compact packing, based on a coefficient of the heat exchange surface energy evaluation, analytical dependences of the heat carrier thermal interaction, when going through the heat accumulating layer, and also using the method of type «non-stationary thermal conditions». Final analytical dependences are given to calculate comparative energy consumption in tested packings on known thermal hydraulic and heat-physical characteristics of a surface and flow.

Service expenditures are compared when operating on light and heavy fuel of an average viscosity.

Experimental and calculation data are given on the use of different kinds of fuel and fuel mixtures in medium speed diesel engines. Results are shown in polynominal models, showing statistic connection of fuel properties and operating parameters. Quality of the mathematical model approximation is evaluated, and attained dependences are analyzed.

Connection is considered between the cylinder-piston group condition, parameters of the used oil and fresh oil consumption for lubrication of the cylinder-piston group, based on investigations of low speed diesel engines 9DKRN80/160-4. Some variations of this group parts wear in the function of the oil consumption are analyzed at direct and indirect measurements.

Test results are given of the engine 6ChN25/34-6 cylinder liners, their inner surface is coated with a regular microrelief, of a spiral groove type. The engine mechanical efficiency thereat increased by 1.0 to 1.5%, specific fuel consumption decreased by 1.5 to 2 g/(kW h), and the cylinder liner and piston ring wear reduced 1.5 to 2 times.
