Main characteristics of a full-flow oil filter are optimized on the economical criterion. Analysis of the cast iron properties for locomotive liners is given. The conclusion shows that a refined cast iron with the vermicular graphite HNM-R possesses a complex of physicomechanical properties, which might recommend it for heavy loaded cylinder liners of locomotive diesel engines.

A number of experimental investigations had been carries out at CNIDI on samples made of grey and high-duty cast iron, and it was found out that the strength of cast iron parts can be essentially increased, both by substitution high-duty cast iron for grey one, and by the selection of thermal treatment conditions. It is also established that the replacement of grey cast iron by the high-duty cast iron leads to the increase of the housing wall vibration, that allowed to get a formula for calculation of the housing wall vibration variation, when replacing types of cast iron.

Results are given of experimental investigations on a cylinder liner of the marine engine 5DKRN62/140-3. Main reasons are considered of crack creation in cylinder liners, their nature is explained, recommendations are given on the increase of cylinder liner reliability.
