Improvement of the piston thermal condition, using cylinder liners with the better cooling
// Dvigatelestroyeniye. — 1990. — ¹ 5. — P. 3–6.
Key words: engines.

A possibility is considered to improve the piston thermal condition by variation of the liner temperature field, that can be attained by selection of a reasonable diagram of the cooling liquid motion within the liner cooling space. Variation of the piston temperature condition is shown to be effected by both (he level and nature of the temperature distribution at the upper and most thermal stressed zone of the liner surface and the temperature level at the bottom liner operating surface.

Effect of the cylinder area confinement on the working medium flow through 4-stroke engine valve timing members
// Dvigatelestroyeniye. — 1990. — ¹ 5. — P. 6–7.
Key words: engines.

Results are given of the experimental investigation of the working medium flow through valve timing members at the variable channel geometry and variable cylinder space configuration. It is established that in case the piston is about TDC the flow asymmetry is going to increase, this can be seen in the decrease of the channel clear opening (the final result of this is the three or four times decrease of the consumption coefficient or the effective clear opening).

// Dvigatelestroyeniye. — 1990. — ¹ 5. — P. 10–12.
Key words: engines.

Results are given of the use of the method of finite elements and boundary integral equations to calculate concentration coefficients in crankshaft fillets. Both methods are shown to get quite precise results for the predetermined time. Numerical values are compared with results of calculation-experimental techniques by A.S. Leikin and A. Eberhard. A conclusion is made of the better concurrence of calculated values with results of the A.S. Leikin technique.

Effectiveness of the marine low speed diesel engine protection against thermal overloads
// Dvigatelestroyeniye. — 1990. — ¹ 5. — P. 35–38.
Key words: engines.

Investigation data are given on a mathematical model of the start process and the marine diesel engine acceleration, diesel engine operation for the fixed-pitch propeller and the analysis of variation of diesel engine operation parameters together with manoeuvrable ship characteristics. The more effective means to prevent thermal overloads is shown as the low rate of the task signal adjustment for the speed governor. The servomotor limiter of the governor on the predetermined speed, comparing with the charge air pressure limiter, in great extent guarantees the diesel engine protection against mechanical overload at the start and against thermal overload at the acceleration. Recommendations are given on the selection of protection device setting parameters.
