The results are discussed of field tests of a system that enables cutting fuel to a part of engine cylinders in 2TE116 locomotive diesel engine. Test results demonstrated better fuel efficiency ensured by the experimental system, as well as a necessity to improve its reliability. Block diagram is described of a control & safety system based on partial disabling engine cylinders, as applied to ??26/26 engine model. Evaluation is carried out of expected saving on fuel due to implementation of the system in question, and ideas are set forth of how to implement it.

A numerical method is offered of cam shaping to provide better lubrication, applicable to various valve train configurations.
