A thermal treatment technique is discussed that results in lower deformation of heated crankshaft blank. The author offers a method of shaping boundaries between microstructures, whereby form and location of these boundaries may be preset and predicted. Needed patterns of inter-struc- ture boundaries dislocation and intersection may be obtained. The method enables to improve quality of hardened crankshaft journals.

Fatigue Strength Analysis of the Injector Body

Technique is discussed of diesel engine injector analysis for fatigue strength factor with finite element method. The technique in question has been verified and supported with test results. The article discusses test results obtained on engine firing methanol/diesel fuel mix. The idea is to partly substitute diesel fuel with methanol, the methanol proportion being as high as possible. Ways are outlined of how to achieve the above goal. Stand test data are presented along with the results of heat release dynamics calculations. The authors' conclusion is that use of methanol/diesel fuel mix is feasible and recommendable.
