Keywords:
road map for implementation of the strategy, key steps, governmental support, structuring
of manufacturers, optimal cooperation, federal R and D centre, standardization of engine families
according to power range and application.
The strategy encompasses guidelines and top priority measures needed to restore efficiency
and competitive ability of engine building in Russia. In particular, the following measures
are offered: legislative protection of Russian engine market from import, optimal cooperation
of engine and component manufacturers, increase in governmental share in charter capital of key
engine manufacturers, establishment of federal R and D centre, structuring of R and D projects,
standardization of engine families according to power range and application.

Stirling engines: Progress in design and research methods
// Dvigatelestroyeniye. — 2016. — ¹ 4. — P. 10–14.
Keywords:
Stirling engine, operating parameters, power trains, modular design, training courses for specialists.
Described are progress in design concept of Stirling engine (SE) for several last decades, and engine operating parameters achieved. According to the authors, dominant trend in SE power train development is use of conrod-free solutions patented in RF by S.Balandin, A.Kostin, et al. Modular design is one of most promising lines of SE development, which enables construction of high-powered engines by duplication of similar working medium circuits. The authors lay emphasis on the necessity for establishment of courses for training SE specialists in technical universities.

Instruments used in engine HP fuel pump testing: metrological performance
// Dvigatelestroyeniye. — 2016. — ¹ 4. — P. 26–29.
Keywords:
fuel injection system, test stand, instrumentation, measurement accuracy, metrological performance optimization.
The article discusses sources of various measurement inaccuracies typical to HP fuel pump testing and tuning on dedicated test stands. According to the authors, instrument measurement inaccuracies are added by those caused by human factor and tested object specifics. Based on the analysis of inaccuracy sources, the authors offered an algorithm for optimization of metrological performance of instruments used in manufacturing and testing of fuel injection system components.

Influence of gas explosion treatment parameters on steel mechanical properties
// Dvigatelestroyeniye. — 2016. — ¹ 4. — P. 30–34.
Keywords:
ceramic components, gas explosion treatment, improvement of mechanical properties, impact strength, gas pulse resonance frequency.
The article discusses optimization of gas explosion treatment parameters (such as gain-frequency characteristics and exposure duration), with a view to improve mechanical properties of metal parts and blanks in minimum time. According to data cited, as far as gas explosion treatment is concerned, structure and properties of parts from alloyed steel are primarily influenced by characteristics of unsteady flow gas pulses.
Superimposition of gas flow resonant oscillation and natural oscillations of treated part results in reduction of treatment time by half, impact strength remaining unaffected.

International engine building: trends and priorities (based on CIMAC 2016 papers)
// Dvigatelestroyeniye. — 2016. — ¹ 4. — P. 35–60.
Keywords:
International engine building, priorities, HERCULES-2 research project, adaptive marine engine, D500 newly designed engine platform, emission compliance, high pressure supercharge system.
Klaus Heim, newly elected president of CIMAC, in his interview for Diesel Progress magazine gave his evaluation of CIMAC activities for the last period and its future prospects, and outlined priorities and trends in world engine building.
An example of said trend realization is HERCULES-2, unique project which encompasses a number of research and development programs implemented by two major engine manufacturer groups MAN and WARTSILA. Main objective of the project is creation of marine engine with near-zero emissions, featuring adaptive control methodologies, which would result in engine performance unaffected by any external disturbances.
One of papers presented at the CIMAC congress concerned achievements of domestic engine building, viz., supercharge system jointly developed for Kolomna D500 newly designed engine platform by ABB Turbo Systems and PJSC Kolomensky Zavod. The engine whose entering commercial application was scheduled for 2016, boasts emission compliance with current and future applicable international standards.
The CIMAC papers are translated into Russian by G.Melnik, PhD.
