Analysis of marine shafting axial vibration
// Dvigatelestroyeniye. — 2018. — ¹ 1. — P. 3–7.
Keywords: marine shafting, axial vibration, discrete model, axial yield, analytical methods.

The authors discuss principal steps of analysis of marine shafting axial vibration with up-to-date numerical techniques. The Runge-Kutta method is used for definition of free, forced & resonance vibrations, and integration of second-order differential equations. Finite element method is used for flexibility calculation as applied to crankshaft components and a thrust bearing. It is noted that calculation, as far as shafting axial vibrations are concerned, remains to be the only way of their prediction.

Domestic electronic control system as a means to improve performance of type ZMZ-51432.10CRS engine
// Dvigatelestroyeniye. — 2018. — ¹ 1. — P. 8–12.
Keywords: multi-purpose diesel engine, electronic control system, calibration of a control unit, fuel injection system, stand tests, field tests.

The article describes electronic control system for type ZMZ-51432.10CRS engine, developed as a means to increase engine output and reduce fuel consumption. Intended scope of application of the system includes general purpose and military engines. Control system wiring was tailor-made and the system was adapted and calibrated for the engine, which enabled to increase torque by 23 % and reduce fuel consumption by 4 g/kW·h. The engine equipped with prototype system passed laboratory tests and then field tests as a part of a military boat featuring water-jet propeller.

Local heat exchange in reciprocating engine as a subject area in Bauman Technical University
// Dvigatelestroyeniye. — 2018. — ¹ 1. — P. 13–15.
Keywords: reciprocating engines, local heat exchange problems, promising solution methods, 3D-CRFD code applications, combustion theory.

The article presents brief history of Reciprocating Engine Department of Bauman Technical University and its contribution in development of «local heat exchange in reciprocating engines» as a subject area. Considered is specificity of problem solution concerning local heat exchange in reciprocating engines, using methods based on either classic Prandtl theory or modern 3D-CRFD-codes. Prognosis is presented of future development of subject area in question.

Performance of car petrol engine catalyst as a function of operational factors
// Dvigatelestroyeniye. — 2018. — ¹ 1. — P. 16–19.
Keywords: petrol engine, exhaust gas, toxic components, catalyst, stand tests, operational factors, oxygen sensor.

A car petrol engine was given stand tests in order to evaluate influence of operational factors on performance of a three-way catalyst designed to reduce emissions of hydrocarbons and carbon oxide. The test results allowed to identify operation modes and factors affecting catalyst efficiency with respect to the above toxic components. Recommendations are offered on improvement of the catalyst performance so as to comply with respective applicable emission standards.

Dual-fuel engines type MAN L51/60DF: operating experience
// Dvigatelestroyeniye. — 2018. — ¹ 1. — P. 20–26.
Keywords: dual-fuel engine, combustion, starting sequence, toggling between fuels, failure cause analysis.

Discussed are some design features of «MAN Diesel & Turbo» marine dual-fuel engine series 51/60DF, powering ships series S1910 through the electric transmission. Operating experience and failures over the period 18 000+ hours were analyzed. The analysis was primarily focused on engine starting sequence, switching between different fuel types (liquid fuel–gaseous fuel–liquid fuel) and respective failures. According to the analysis, most typical type of failure is unstable operation under operating conditions that are predominant in practice.

Development of fuel systems for dual-fuel engines (based on CIMAC-2016 papers)
// Dvigatelestroyeniye. — 2018. — ¹ 1. — P. 34–58.
Keywords: dual-fuel engines, common rail fuel systems, increase in injection pressure, pilot fuel systems, widening of energetic diesel fraction range, increase in fuel efficiency, reduction in toxic emissions.

Common rail (CR) principle is commonly recognized as one of the most promising technologies to be used in dual-fuel engines. Architecture of last generation CR systems and design features of new wide range injectors from «L'Orange» (Germany) and OMT (Italy) secures full flexibility with energetic diesel fractions of 1 % to 100 %, which makes it possible to get rid of pilot fuel system altogether. Increase in rail pressure up to 2200 bar enables to significantly enhance fuel efficiency both in diesel and gas modes, reduce toxic emissions and mass & sizes of fuel system components. The CIMAC papers are translated into Russian by G.Melnik, PhD.
