Development of marine low speed crosshead diesel engines

The philosophy is described of the development of marine low speed diesel engines for the last two decades. Improvement of diesel engines, produced at BMZ under the license of «Burmeis-ter & Wein» is shown. Technical characterictics of all diesel engine models, manufactured at BMZ are given, and advantages are shown of a uniflow valve scavenging and admission fo the isobar system of the gas-turbine supercharging, which contributed to «B&W» production of the more efficient engines in the world.

An analysis of a physical model of the indicator diagram is given at both compressed air inlet and exhaust. A definition is given of the complex optimum values p = pr/pB and the 4-stroke diesel engine pressure ratio in dependence on the supercharging parameters at both inlet and outlet, and also on the supercharger effectiveness.

Technical reasons of the calculation of the lubricating oil consumption for melting loss

A technique is described of the calculated evaluation of the oil transferring from the crankcase to the combustion chamber. This technique is based on the calculation of the total film thickness difference, the film is formed by all parts of the engine cylinder-piston group, at the cylinder motion up and down, considering the oil leakage through the joint ring lock, evaluation of conditions of the separation and periodical ejection of oil droplets from the clearance between the piston head and the cylinder liner.

A brief description is given and a background of a fuel pump NDSP construction for a small displacement automobile diesel engine of Pe = 36,8 kW for a passenger car. Investigation results are given of the process and characteristics of the fuel delivery, operation of an automatic device for the fuel injection advance, the effectiveness of the pump operation on a diesel engine and a car, comparing with the Bosch fuel pump ER/VE parameters.

Calculation evaluation of parameters of the oil cleaning, using a centrifuge

Experimental data are given of distribution of impurity suspended particles in used motor oils. A process of sedimentation is considered of a polydispersion particle system in a vectorial inertia field of centrifuge rotors, and a method of definition is described of different operating oil cleaning parameters. The effect is shown of relative great particle content in the oil on the intensity of deposits collection in centrifuge rotors.
