Improvement of the transient process quality in diesel engines with gas turbine supercharging by the heat recovery

A comparative analysis is given of known methods to improve the air supply for diesel engines supercharged by gas turbines during their transient conditions. The reason to use the diesel engine released heat for improvement of transient conditions is explained. The offered method and device are described for delivery of steam going from the recovery system to the flowing part of the turbo-charger turbine to speed up its rotor rotation, and also results are given of experimental investigations, to show advantages of above method and device.

Evaluation criterion of the diesel engine effectiveness of the oil consumption for melting loss

A criterion Cp is offered to evaluate the construction improvement and the engine effectiveness, it is equal to the ratio of the oil consumption for melting loss per time unit to the area of the cylinder liner surface, overlapped by piston rings for the same time. Depending zones of the criterion Ñp are considered on the cycle of mean effective pressure for mass production and perspective national diesel engines.

Calculation evaluation of cavitation conditions in recesses of the high temperature cooling system

Conditions are considered of acoustic cavitation in the high temperature cooling system, and a method of calculation of the excess pressure in the high temperature cooling system is offered, based on the analysis of equations of the steam cavitation recess dynamics in the hydroacoustic field, after this has reached the cavitation is depressed. Also a problem is studied of an interrelation between frequencies of forced oscillations and threshold accelerations of the wall oscillating motion, e. g. accelerations, corresponding to initial moments of the cavitation excitation.

Effect of thermal physical properties of exhaust valve materials on their thermal stress

Information is given of calculation of thermal stresses in the exhaust valve disk. The effect is shown of thermal-physical valve properties and surfacing on the thermal stress of an experimental exhaust valve without cooling for a carburettor 8-cylinder automobile V-engine. Results are given of an analysis carried out using the computer, which attained values of circumferential and radial thermal stresses in the valve disk and found methods for their decrease.

Numerical profiling of shockless cams

A technique is given of the cam profiling of an arbitrary profile for the advance motion of a cam follower with a roller. Problems of correction of the valve fit speed are studied and of provision of necessary stroke margins for inlet and exhaust valves of a 4-stroke engine before meeting with the piston. The use of this technique for a drive mechanism with a swinging cam follower is described.

An experience is described of the use of IEM-2 instrument to define the load of main diesel engines M400 and M401, installed on a high speed ship board. Information is given of comparative diesel engine tests on high speed ships, receiving spiral curves and sihowing reasons of engine overload, when operating under transent conditions. Recommendations are given on how to decrease the engine overload and to use IEM-2 in practice.

About the diesel engine operation on high viscous fuel under any operating conditions

Marine low speed diesel engines are proposed to operate on heavy fuel under any conditions, including their start. This proposal was approbated on the Sulzer engine 6RND76 (6DCRN76/155). Analysis of oscillograms showed the safety and reliability of the start on fuel oil M-40. The engine would start smoothly, the maximum pressure in the fuel equipment did not exceed 41.5 mPa.
