Evaluation is given of the engine heat release characteristic, the engine using the steam-hydrogen mixture at the inlet. Calculated and experimental results are compared. It is shown that the increase of the hydrogen supply will lead to the increase of the cycle maximum pressure and the pressure ratio, that has a negative effect on the engine reliability and life.

It is shown that under certain conditions it is possible, due to vibration, to increase the coefficient of heat release into the cooling water up to 40 or 50 %. A calculation technique is offered for heat release into the cylinder cooling water, taking into account intensity of the heat release surface vibration.

A problem is considered of how to increase the effectiveness of the finite element method, used for calculation of thermal and stress-deformation condition of cylinder-piston group details. An algorithm is offered of an automated preparation of initial parameters to calculate temperature and stress fields. An example is given of the algorithm action, when making finite element grid for the cylinder cover of a diesel engine, type ChN15/16.

The use of an indicator diagram at different loads for investigation of the crankshaft rotation non-uniformity

The reason and effectiveness are considered to use economically alloyed austenitic cast iron for a number of engine parts instead of grey cast iron of ferrite-perlite and perlite classes. Results are given of investigations of new austenitic cast iron types, they were studied at a normal temperature and in conditions similar to engine service conditions. Perspectivity is shown of the austenitic cast iron use for RIC engines, that will improve their technical and economical characteristics.

Results are given of comparative wear tests on a friction machine of different in their composition materials and coatings for piston rings. Complex-alloyed and high-duty cast irons showed the best results, their wear resistance was 2 to 3 times as much as the serial grey cast iron.

Characteristics of new devices are given to control parameters of completed units. Examples of its use are given to study non-stationary complex flow in exhaust channels and turbulence in engine cylinders.
